About GlobeMetrics
GlobeMetrics answers one question well: how many people live in a given part of India, and how sure can you be of the number? Every figure on the site says what it is: a census count, an official projection, or our estimate, with its source and date one tap away.
Why this site exists
The last census was in 2011. Since then India has gained about 21.26 crore people and some 140 new districts, and most numbers online mix up city, metro and district figures or quote estimates as if they were counts. We rebuild 2011 figures on today’s district boundaries, tie every estimate to the official state projection, and show the city, metro area and district side by side.
What we publish
- India and all 36 States/UTs: Census 2011 and the official RGI projection for 2026.
- 715 districts on current boundaries, with Census 2011 figures rebuilt from village records and labelled estimates for 2026.
- 160 cities with city, metro and district figures.
- Census 2027: what has been decided and, once released, the results on the same pages.
