Among the 849 cities we cover, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has the highest AQI right now (500, Hazardous), followed by Zaria (357), Beijing (284), Bangkok (204). The list changes by the hour with weather, fires and dust.

Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela (14); Managua, Nicaragua (15); Cali, Colombia (16); Panama City, Panama (17), on the US EPA scale.
What do the AQI numbers and colours mean?
The US EPA Air Quality Index runs from 0 to 500: 0–50 Good, 51–100 Moderate, 101–150 Unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151–200 Unhealthy, 201–300 Very unhealthy, 301 and above Hazardous. Each pollutant gets a sub-index and the AQI is the highest one.
Where do these numbers come from?
From the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), the European Union’s global air-quality forecast. It is a model, not a network of monitors, so it gives every city the same method and a forecast, but it can differ from a local station. For Indian cities we also show CPCB’s official daily bulletin.
