Editorial policy

  • Official first. Where a census count or official projection exists, we publish it unchanged.
  • Every estimate is labelled. The word “estimate” and the ≈ sign appear wherever a figure is ours.
  • Definitions are explicit. City, metro area and district are never mixed.
  • No commentary on caste or religion. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe shares appear only as official percentages, without interpretation and without ads beside them.
  • No predictions of Census 2027 results, and no unofficial or leaked counts.
  • Generated pages meet a minimum. A page is published only if it carries data unique to that place; the threshold is enforced in the build.
  • Translations are written, not machine-translated. Hindi and Marathi pages use their own sentence banks; names come from official records and are reviewed.
  • Corrections are public. See the corrections log.
