Questions

Which state or region is the largest here?

California, United States, with 39,355,309 people (1 July 2025), followed by Texas, United States (31.7 million) and Florida, United States (23.5 million).

Where do the figures come from?

Each country’s own statistics: the US Census Bureau, the UK’s Office for National Statistics, Statistics Canada, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Statistics Bureau of Japan. Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium and Poland come from Eurostat, which collects them from national offices.

Why do the dates differ?

Each office publishes on its own schedule, and we show the latest figure from each with its date. Compare sizes across countries with that in mind: a year’s change is usually under 1%.
